Neosho promotes Schoonover

NEOSHO — Neosho elevated assistant Jared Schoonover to become its new head football coach on Tuesday.
Schoonover replaces Shawn Flannigan, who is bound for Rogers (Ark.). Schoonover handled the play-calling duties for a Wildcats offense last season that averaged 38 points a night.
Schoonover previously coached five years at Bentonville (Ark.).
Neosho has won back-to-back district championships.

Missouri Southern State reels in four COC recruits

JOPLIIN — Webb City’s Braxton Baker and Bart Starkey and Neosho’s Matt Bridges and Addison Rainwater will next be teammates.
They all signed letters of intent earlier this week to continue their gridiron careers at Missouri Southern State. Baker is a running back, Bridges a center and Rainwater and Starkey are linebackers.
Also, Webb City defensive back Boo Rodgers signed with Southern Illinois-Carbondale.

Nixa’s Keeney among those to sign letters of intent

Nixa’s Jordan Keeney will continue his football career at Central Missouri State, after signing a letter of intent with the Mules.
Keeney, the Central Ozark Conference Large Schools Division Offensive Player of the Year last fall, is expected to stay at running back for Central Missouri State.
The Eagles’ Skyler Brown, an offensive lineman, signed with Ottawa (Kan.).
Ozark’s Tom Ligion signed with Arkansas State’s track team and hopes to compete in the decathalon.
The Tigers’ Keaton Patterson, a linebacker, signed to play football at Southwest Baptist.
Carthage’s Trevor Hole signed with Evangel and plans to play football and compete in track.

Knob Noster’s Phillips to join Pirates

BRANSON — Branson has hired Knob Noster head football coach Ed Phillips as an assistant coach and weight training teacher.
Phillips, a Buffalo grad, previously coached at Lockwood. He replaces Ron Martin, who resigned after 24 seasons with the Pirates.
“Ed possesses the kind of character that is going to make him a great fit in the Branson community and the Branson school district,” athletic director Tony Berry said.
